IP65 & IP44 Rated Fittings

Lights rated for wet and damp locations — bathrooms, shower rooms, kitchens, exteriors, garages and commercial wash-down areas.

The IP number is two figures. The first is protection against solids and dust (6 = dust tight, 4 = objects over 1mm). The second is protection against water (5 = jets from any direction, 4 = splashes from any direction). So IP65 is the safer choice for an exposed exterior wall or a drive-through wash area; IP44 is the usual minimum for a bathroom or a sheltered porch.

Both are minimums rather than targets — if a fitting sits directly in the weather, or in a zone within 0.6m of a bath or shower, check the zone requirement as well as the IP figure.
